Hyundai Sonata was the most-shopped vehicle in May according to data from Compete, a Kantar Media company. In a mall tour spanning from Atlanta to Chicago to Los Angeles in May and June, Hyundai captured the unscripted, unedited remarks of drivers as they tested various Hyundai models. Those impromptu remarks highlight the Hyundai “Uncensored” campaign. A total of six new spots will be joined by digital, radio, social media, experiential, CRM and point-of-sale components as the campaign ramps up in July and runs through the end of August.

Hyundai’s adverting agency, Innocean Worldwide Americas, is responsible for the creative.

The experiential campaign focuses on two key strategies. First, 125 non-Hyundai sedan owners will be given a new 2011 Sonata to drive for 30 days. Their comments will be posted – unscripted and unedited – on Hyundai’s Facebook site. The second is a multi-city ride-and-drive which includes a video booth where consumers can film their drive impression and post video directly to their own Facebook page.

2010 HYUNDAI TUCSON EARNS IIHS “TOP SAFETY PICK”

The completely-redesigned 2010 Hyundai Tucson crossover has been a huge hit with consumers since its launch in December, and today received another accolade to add to its resume. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2010 Tucson a “TOP SAFETY PICK”—achieving the highest rating of “Good” in all crash test categories including the frontal offset crash test, side impact test, rear crash protection/head restraint rating and rollover roof strength test. Vehicles with a “Good” rating in this final test have roofs that can withstand a force equal to at least 4 times the vehicle’s weight. For comparison, the current federal standard is 1.5 times weight.

In order to be considered for an IIHS “TOP SAFETY PICK,” a vehicle must also feature Electronic Stability Control (ESC)—a safety feature that has been standard on Tucson since the fall of 2004. In fact, Tucson was the first compact crossover to offer this important lifesaving technology as standard equipment. This year, Hyundai has continued to innovate with the safety package on the Tucson, debuting new standard safety technologies such as Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hillstart Assist Control (HAC) on the 2010 model.

“The Tucson was the first vehicle in our lineup that so artfully combined state-of-the-art safety features, design and affordability,” said Mike Nino, Tucson’s Product Planning Manager. “The IIHS’ ‘TOP SAFETY PICK’ confirms what we’ve known all along—that the Tucson is an attractive CUV and both a safety and value leader in the market.”

The 2010 Tucson, priced from $18,995, comes well-equipped with standard safety equipment, including, six airbags, active front head restraints, four-wheel disc brakes controlled by an advanced four-channel ABS with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control , as well as the previously-mentioned ESC. IIHS has found that ESC reduces the risk of all fatal collisions by 49 percent and the risk of fatal single-vehicle rollovers of SUVs by 75 percent.

A total of six airbags are positioned in the Tucson’s interior. Dual advanced frontal airbags are complemented by front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and roof-mounted side-curtain airbags with new rollover sensors that cover both the front and rear seat rows. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent, according to the IIHS.

Beyond its wealth of safety features, the Tucson’s basic construction adds to the protection of its passengers. Its steel unibody has integrated crumple zones and a high-tensile steel front sub-frame designed to work together to reduce the forces that typically reach the passenger compartment. The front side members have been enlarged and straightened to increase their impact absorbtion properties, and the center “B” pillars are designed as a one piece “internal roll bar” to create a safer cabin area for passengers. All four of the Tucson’s doors also have internal guard beams to protect passengers in a side-impact collision.

The design of the Equus is handsome and pleasing to the eye. The rear-end treatment is progressive with bold taillights, strong shoulders and an overall look of precision. This look is accomplished through fully-integrated asymmetrical exhaust tips and rear LED turn signal indicators. The side silhouette is refined, with character lines that accent the rear fenders. Up front is a subtle horizontal radiator grille and well-proportioned headlamps with jeweled detailing. NEW TECHNOLOGIES DELIVER UNCOMPROMISED SAFETY PERFORMANCE

Maintaining Hyundai's emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Equus boasts world-class active and passive safety features to help prevent accidents, and maximize the well-being of its occupants in the event of a collision. Equus has an optional camera located on the front grille and a standard camera on the rear decklid. These cameras help detect how close objects are when parking. Distance is indicated on the in-dash LCD monitor.

Equus is brought to a halt by large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). The 13.6-inch front rotors have four-piston fixed calipers and the rear brakes feature 12.4-inch rotors with single floating piston calipers.

GMC Sierra HD Leads the Segment in Towing and Payload Ratings

Olympia! GMC announced today that the new 2011 GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups have increased towing and payload ratings through ongoing development and testing, making them the most capable and powerful heavy-duty pickups in the segment. The ratings have been increased to 21,700 pounds of towing and 6,635 pounds of payload. Come test drive a GMC Sierra at Titus-Will GMC in the Olympia Auto Mall.

“When developing the Sierra HD our focus has consistently been to deliver customers the most capable heavy-duty trucks in the market, along with premium features and styling that distinguish GMC amongst the competition,” said Rick Spina, GM Full-size Truck global vehicle line executive. “Our first set of capability tests confirmed that the team had exceeded the payload and towing targets by a significant margin. Ongoing testing demonstrated a clear opportunity to increase the true capabilities of these trucks.”

The GMC Sierra HD engineering team was able to achieve the increase in towing capacity to 21,700 by putting the Sierra HD through a wide variety of tests over various terrains, grades and weather conditions. Extensive design and lab analysis, climatic wind tunnel testing, and actual on-road extreme ride and handling testing methods were all used to confirm stable handling and performance of the powertrain, drivetrain and brake components at maximum gross combined weight rating (GCWR). The GCWR is increased to 29,200 pounds.

To achieve the increased payload capacity, engineers used higher strength steel for the cargo box sills. The team conducted a significant amount of testing where maximum payloads tested the stronger cargo box and rear axle components. The maximum payload rating has been increased to 6,635 pounds.

“We encourage consumers to test drive the Sierra HD against the competition,” said Spina. “Based on our test results, we are confident our HDs will prove to be the best choice for real-world towing and hauling needs.”

For the first time ever, GMC will be offering the exclusive Denali line in our heavy-duty pickups with the Sierra Denali 2500 and 3500 HDs. The Denali version is distinguished by its iconic four-bar, chrome grille with round air inlets, along with body-color bumpers, chrome door handles, chrome accents and and 17- (Dually), 18- and 20-inch polished forged aluminum wheels.

The GMC Sierra HD is the segment leader in diesel horsepower and torque (397hp, 765 lb-ft), conventional towing (17,000 lbs.), 5th-wheel towing (21,700 lbs.), payload (6,635 lbs.) and maximum GCWR (29,200 lbs.). The 2010 GMC Acadia Really Hauls – in More Ways Than One - Approaching family vehicle perfection

Is there such a thing as the perfect family vehicle? If “perfect” for you means a stylish, agile vehicle that can carry eight people in comfort and can get up to 24 mpg on the highway, then the 2010 GMC Acadia might be the answer for you.

The testers at Consumer Digest magazine think the GMC Acadia is pretty darn close to a perfect family vehicle, naming it a “Best Buy.” Maybe it’s the way the Acadia shatters the compromises of yesterday’s family vehicles. With the GMC Acadia, you can have maximum room without paying maximum fuel bills. And, you can have agility – something never found in old-fashioned family trucksters.

At first glance, the GMC Acadia appears to be a full-size SUV, but it’s really a sleek, sophisticated crossover. Because it’s not shaped like a barn, it doesn't push as much wind as a box on wheels. That translates into a quieter interior and better fuel economy.

Fuel economy is a great place to start a discussion about the Acadia because that’s one of its standout features. But you can’t mention its 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway economy figures without also providing some context. That context comes from the Acadia’s interior roominess. There’s enough go-power to pull a trailer weighing up to 5,200 pounds. That’s more than ample capacity to haul a pair of sporty watercraft – or a trailer full of your in-laws’ stuff, if you’re feeling particularly magnanimous. Keep in mind, too, that GMC backs up the engine and transmission with a five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

All of this capability starts at an MSRP of just $31,740. That includes a plethora of standard features in the SL model such as front and rear air conditioning, StabiliTrak stability control with traction control, frontal and side-impact airbags for the driver and front passenger and head-curtain side-impact airbags for all three rows in outboard seating positions.
